US PHOTOGRAPHY
NEW LANDSCAPE
Students in US Advanced Photography were given the following prompt:
If you could transform one space in your home or neighborhood, what would you alter? Would you create a realistic change or something wildly imaginative? Use photography to envision the new space.

Tara Jessen
The two landscapes that I chose were two empty areas with a tree that are in my neighborhood. One of the landscapes overlooks a big part of my neighborhood that is down a hill so I thought it would be amazing to put a swing there so that we can swing while looking at and appreciating the view of the houses and nature around my neighborhood.

Tara Jessen
The second landscape is a space that is empty between some houses. It always looked magical and beautiful so I would love to have a treehouse there to be able to go to an amazing place surrounded by nature and calmness if I ever needed an escape.

Hailey Grimaud
The original photo was taken in my backyard. I don’t have a big tree but my neighbors did so I took a picture of it and doubled it over to make it bigger. I took out the electricity lines because they were distracting and added a tree house. The reason why I picked a tree house is because I’ve always wanted one when I was younger but our backyard doesn’t have a tree for it, or the space.

Cole Ketzel
For this assignment about transformation it made me think about the construction crew that have been working right outside my window for the past 3 months. They are transforming an old house. This made me think, after having loud knocking and banging outside my window for 3 months, what do I wish was there? While we live at the beach my bedroom is on the side of the house and doesn't have a direct view of the beach so an image I created captures that feeling from through my window. I think this would be the ideal transformation and would result in the best view out of my bedroom window.

I wanted to transform the space into something more imaginative. The pool landscape was a photo of my pool that I drew on to add surfers, a boat, and birds in the sky. I wanted to transform it so it seemed like the ocean because that is somewhere very difficult to go to right now. I wanted to put the beach in my home to make it seem accessible even though it is just an imagination.

When I visited Japan during last year’s spring break, I remember being amazed by the beautiful cherry blossom trees that surrounded the streets. To remember these captivating views, I included cherry blossoms in a photo of train crossing tracks.

I choose to take a photo of the golf course that I can see from my house. If I could, I would put a “mini amusement park” in that space to make it more fun. This space with just grass seems like it could be used for much more fun things, which is why I decided to put a ferris wheel, slide, and roller coaster in the landscape.

Lara Mirkazemi
In my images, I added items to the original landscape that weren’t really realistic. The helicopter image is on my house roof. Since the roof is completely flat, I thought it would be interesting to add a helicopter to the roof as if it were a helicopter landing pad.

Madge Vidmen
While re-imagining a space, I decided to take a more imaginary approach. Whilst walking around PB, which already was very well developed, I only found a couple of spaces that could be transformed. In this photo, I layered a blueprint of a UFO over an apartment complex.

Rhea Ramchandani
For this assignment I created a photo with a waterslide coming out of my master bedroom’s window and a photo of my room with edited decorations. I chose to transform the first photo in a wildly imaginative way to create a fun scene. I had to redo the waterslide at least 5 or 6 times until I decided that I was satisfied with it. Overall, this activity was difficult but it let me broaden my creativity and allowed me to learn more about Photoshop and interesting things it can do.

For this assignment I created a photo with a waterslide coming out of my master bedroom’s window and a photo of my room with edited decorations. For the second photo I wanted to create a realistic collage or set up of a decorated room. This assignment was definitely extremely challenging as the first photo took a lot of editing since the separate objects needed the correct perspective and lighting to match the setting.
